BAN RAK THAI
A village founded by soldiers from Yunnan, China, that stands out for its tourist postcard allure.
Mae Aw, more commonly known as Ban Rak Thai, is a charming little village located 40 km north of Mae Hong Son, close to the Burmese border. It was founded by soldiers from China's Yunnan province. Around the lake are restaurants, cafés and small shops... The local specialty is tea production. The village looks like a tourist postcard, with a large resort facing the lake. Nevertheless, it makes a pleasant getaway, and the road leading to it is superb.
