WAT PHRA THAT DOI CHOM THONG
Temple on the hill overlooking Chiang Rai with long golden chedi and Lanna-style viharn believed to contain Buddha relics
Placed on the path leading to the Wat, hundreds of little red bells are supposed to help you reach Nirvana... symbolically. Located on the top of the hill overlooking the city (the view is superb), this temple with its monumental architecture is one of the oldest and most revered in the region. Its impressive golden chedi, built in 1450, is the highest in the whole region. The Lanna-style viharn dates from 1817 and is said to contain relics of Buddha.
