WAT PHRA KAEW
This Chiang Rai temple once housed the famous Emerald Buddha, a precious statuette discovered by chance in 1434.
This temple was home to the famous Emerald Buddha, which has since been preserved in Bangkok. This precious statuette was discovered by chance in 1434, hidden inside the chedi out of sight, so that the Burmese could not seize it. This Buddha was permanently transferred to Bangkok in March 1784. Now a faithful reproduction of the original is in a prominent place in the temple. It is possible to get close to it and to come and admire it closely, and even to photograph it, which is impossible in Bangkok!
