THE LAKE OF MONTCINEYRE
An 18-metre-deep lake surrounded by beech trees, forming a crescent around the volcano of the same name.
This charming lake, covering some 40 hectares and reaching a depth of 18 metres, lies at an altitude of 1,182 metres. It forms a picturesque crescent around the volcano of the same name, an isolated cone in the puys chain resulting from a late eruption. The surrounding beech trees add to its natural charm. The waters of the lake feed the Couze de Valbeleix. On a sunny day, it's a perfect opportunity to get some height and stretch your legs. A well-marked path leads up to the crater, offering magnificent views.
