THAO SURANARI MONUMENT
A monument to local heroine Khun Ying Mo, set on an esplanade, recounts the Laotian invasion during the reign of Rama III
This monument, erected in 1933, is dedicated to the local heroine Khun Ying Mo (Lady Mo), who distinguished herself during the Lao invasion under the reign of Rama III. It occupies the centre of a vast esplanade, on the site of the ancient ramparts of the city, of which only the forts remain. The old gate of the city, dating from the 17th century, last vestige of the 4 gates which existed at the time of the reign of the great king Narai, is near the memorial. Miniature buses are dropped off by bus drivers as an offering to seek the protection of the great lady.
