PRASAT SA KAMPHAENG YAI
Khmer temple built to honor Hindu deities, converted into a Buddhist temple housing statues of Shiva and Vishnu.
Dating from the 16th century of the Buddhist era (11th century CE), this Khmer temple, built to honor Hindu deities, became a Buddhist temple over the course of several dynasties. Four towers and two central buildings make up the distinct structures inside the temple, which is surrounded by a large gallery in the classic construction style of the period. Numerous statues of Shiva, Vishnu and other Hindu gods can be seen, with Buddha himself appearing only in the background... reflecting the historical evolution.
