If you are visiting Isaan in July, don't miss the Candlelight Festival. It marks the opening of Buddhist Lent. Each monastic community makes real sculptures of giant size, made of special wax (more resistant to heat), carved with very deep and truly extraordinary motifs. Most of them are true masterpieces of plastic art! They represent Buddha and various other Asian deities. Displayed on tanks, they cross the city in a great procession.
