KHONG CHIAM
A small, affordable town east of Ubon, at the confluence of the Mekong and Mun rivers, idyllic for excursions.
This adorable little town lies on the border with Laos, some 70 km east of Ubon, exactly at the confluence of the Mekong and Mun rivers. There are some interesting excursions to be made in the area, but you can also enjoy a long, lazy stopover. You can hire long-tail boats (remember to bargain) and set off to wander the Mekong or Mun rivers. A very pleasant and natural experience (despite the engine noise). Note that you can rent the boat on your own or with others for the same price.
