THAM KHAO LUANG
A 27-metre-deep cavern on a hill inhabited by monkeys, home to numerous Buddha statues.
Located on a hill inhabited by many monkeys, the Tham Khao Luang is a 27-metre deep cave containing a multitude of Buddha statues. Several caves are connected with each other. Skylights give the site a mystical aura, especially when the sun enters the cave. King Rama IV (Mongkut) came here to meditate and study Buddhism. The statue of the reclining Buddha, about 5 meters long, is one of the main attractions of the site. Many monkeys will greet you on your arrival.
