WAT PHRA MAHATHAT WORAMAHAWIHAN
A temple in Ayutthaya, where royal cremations took place, housing a magnificent bronze statue of Buddha.
Considered as one of the oldest temples of the country, it was built in the 13th century by King Sri Dhammasokaraja. Its chedi, of a height of more than 70 m, is covered with nearly 3 quintals of gold. A museum within its walls houses carved wooden lintels, 8th century Buddha statues and various cult objects. It continues in a separate building to the left of the temple, and displays ceramics from the region as well as glassware and weapons from the period.
