The construction of this mosque was undertaken by King Naresuan and a Chinese immigrant, Lim To Khiam, in the 16th century. Following a tragic story that became part of the legend, it was never completed. It was the scene of armed clashes between the army and Thai Muslims in 2004, and still has some consequences.
