YALA LAK MUEANG
A monument to Yala, the city's founding pillar, the phallus-shaped sacred stone is a symbol of growth and prosperity.
This "founding pillar" of the city, present here as in all major cities of Thailand, is a symbol that comes from the distant influence of the Hindu religious tradition: a sacred stone in the form of a stylized phallus, a symbol of growth and prosperity. The monument, white and golden in colour, is located in the centre of a large roundabout formed by two concentric traffic rings, south of the city (appearing in the photos seen from the air). Incidentally, it marks mile marker zero of the district.
