This landmark of Taiwanese culture has just reopened after 6 years of renovation work. The National History Museum's impressive collection, covering 4,000 years of history (from 2000 BC to the present day) through more than 10,000 art objects, is once again accessible to the public since its reopening in 2022 following major renovations. This modernization refreshed a scenography that dated back to the 1960s, and introduced contemporary installations to enrich the visitor experience.

Collection. The museum presents a variety of remarkable objects. Among them, ritual bronzes from the Shang dynasty, used in religious ceremonies over 3,000 years ago, testify to the importance of rites and beliefs in ancient Chinese culture. Buddhist sculptures in stone and bronze, dating from the Tang and Song dynasties, show the evolution of religious art and the finesse of the craftsmen of these periods.

Visitors can also admire silk paintings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, depicting scenes of daily life, majestic landscapes and mythological tales. These works offer valuable insights into the artistic techniques and cultural perspectives of these periods. Delicate porcelains from the Yuan and Ming dynasties, renowned for their beauty and technical perfection, are also featured. These pieces, once reserved for the imperial court, demonstrate the mastery of Chinese craftsmen and the importance of porcelain in Chinese art and culture.

The museum also houses a collection of ancient prints, including works by great masters such as Qi Baishi and Zhang Daqian. Capturing the beauty of nature and the simplicity of rural life, these prints are perfect examples of traditional Chinese art.

Finally, handicrafts such as lacquerware, carved jade and embroidered textiles complete this vast collection. Each piece tells a story, reflecting the skills and creativity of craftsmen through the ages.

History and art lovers can enjoy the museum's magnificent view from the botanical garden's lotus lake, a peaceful, verdant setting offering a unique perspective on this restored cultural treasure. Thanks to these renovations, the National History Museum now offers an enriching and immersive experience, celebrating Taiwan's rich heritage.
