Built under the Japanese colonial administration in 1921, the building served as a school and then as the town hall for the city of Taipei. Its facade and clock tower have long been a landmark for the people of Taipei. The relocation of the town hall to Xinyi then allowed the opening of this museum in 2001. The collections of contemporary art exhibited there, while sometimes remarkable, are not necessarily worth the detour compared to those of the TFAM.
