SONGSHAN CULTURAL AND CREATIVE PARK
Just opposite the Sun Yat-sen memorial, this is Taipei's trendy new attraction. Founded in 1937 by the Japanese colonial government, this former tobacco factory, still undergoing renovation, has been transformed into an exhibition center, with numerous boutiques, artists' galleries, cafés and a small design museum. The place is very successful, and offers an interesting leap into the past: almost all the factory's structures have been preserved and refurbished. Numerous events are held here on a regular basis.
At weekends, stalls are set up in the small park for artisans to sell their wares. This is an initiative by the Taipei City Council to promote the talents of those who, during the rest of the week, have a variety of professional activities, but are no less talented for it. And we can only congratulate them. Just next door, on your way to Zhongshan Road, you'll notice the impressive (and very successful) structure of the future 2025 World Masters Games stadium, which will mark the transformation of the city. International sporting competitions will be held here, attracting athletes and visitors from all over the world. As a result, the whole district is changing and becoming fashionable, with cafés and boutiques opening one after the other in the small streets nearby. Here you'll discover a unique blend of past and present, making every visit an enriching experience.
