Built in 1796, this temple is one of the oldest in Taiwan. It's dedicated to Matsu, protector of sailors. Celebrations are held there every 23rd March of the lunar calendar to commemorate the birth of the goddess. To reach Fu You Temple, you have to go along Zhongzheng (Jhongjheng) Street, which is considered as the real center of the old city, especially the section that starts at the Jhongshan Road crossing. Small alleys, old buildings, charming shops plunge the visitor into the Tamsui of yesteryear.
