Information from the Tali Information Centre (also spelled Dali). This trail is only a fraction of the famous Tanlan road that linked the cities of Tamsui and Ilan. Thought up in the 19th century during the Qing Dynasty, its purpose was to link the Taipei basin to the Lanyang plains. The section of Mount Chaoling is 8.5 km long (about a three-hour walk). Practical and safe, the path climbs hard, but the landscape rewards all efforts.
