Damaged in the 1999 earthquake, it has been completely rebuilt, and is therefore very modern. It comprises 24 exhibition halls featuring works by foreign and imperial Chinese artists, as well as young local artists. In the gardens, you'll find fifty stone steles with inscriptions representing the various calligraphic schools. Depending on the day, you can even take part in fun workshops. This is one of Taiwan's most successful art museums, not to be missed if you're in Taichung.
