Damaged in the 1999 earthquake, it has been completely rebuilt and is therefore very modern. It includes 24 exhibition halls showing both foreign and imperial Chinese works, as well as young local artists. In the gardens, fifty stone stelae stand with inscriptions representing the different schools of calligraphy. This is one of Taiwan's most successful art museums, not to be missed if you are passing through Taichung.
