This is one of the most beautiful temples in Taiwan, if not the most beautiful! Sober and quiet, the temple of Longshan (which means Dragon Mountain) dates from the 17th century and is the first Buddhist temple in Taiwan. It was transported to its present location in 1786. Dedicated to Guanyin, goddess of mercy, it is nicknamed the Forbidden City of Taiwan. Every detail requires attention: the sculptures and murals, the front door, the subtly coloured ceilings... Restored after the 1999 earthquake, it is a must see!
