Of the 17 temples dedicated to Matsu, Ta Tien-Hou, in Chinese, is the oldest (1684). Famous for its large statues of Matsu flanked by its two bodyguards, this temple is a small marvel of traditional Chinese architecture. The complex has been renovated many times and still attracts many pilgrims from Taiwan and mainland China. You can get there on foot from Fort Provincia: it is difficult to miss the entrance as the portico is so overloaded with colours and decorations.
