A long island that forms a jetty in Kaohsiung harbour, Qijin has a 300-year-old heritage. The island is connected by ferries to the other side. A few steps from the pier is the rue des Fruits-de-Mer with many restaurants. The Tienhou temple is the oldest in Kaohsiung (1673) and is dedicated to Matsu. To the far north, the lighthouse, built in 1883 by British engineers, is located next to the Chihou fortress whose cannons defend the port. On the west bank, a large beach is developed as a seaside resort.
