De En Gorge Guesthouse, run by an entire aboriginal family from the Rukaï tribe, was one of the oldest Maolin guesthouses open at the time of our survey. It's a good ecotourism establishment, and for a few hundred Taiwanese dollars you can pitch your tent in the garden. In terms of catering, all meals are provided by the owner; the cuisine is simple but delicious, thanks to the many products grown in the garden. Special mention for the homemade bread and traditional recipes!
