Located opposite Magong, a few miles from Penghu, the old houses are even more beautiful than on the main island, especially the traditional village of Erkan. The Western Fort, built under the Qing Dynasty to prevent pirates from coming to take Xiyu's position, is worth the detour. Also on the west coast, impressive basalt formations can be admired. Lighthouses at both the northern and southern ends of the island offer beautiful views of the Formosa Strait, which, on a day of bad weather, are breathtaking.
