CLOCK TOWER
Seychelles monument inaugurated on April 1903 by King Edward VII in Victoria.
Seychelles finally independent... from Mauritius! The event took place on November 9, 1903 with nineteen cannon shots. Until then dependent on Mauritius, the Seychelles were crowned a colony in their own right, now under the Colonial Office. His Majesty Edward VII, two years earlier, had succeeded Victoria, whose memory the Seychellois had wanted to honor, on April1, 1903, by inaugurating a monument which, a century later, remains THE monument of Seychelles. It is a small-scale copy of the tower in London that faces Victoria Station.
