DENONE CASTLE
This Renaissance-style castle is supported by three towers, the remains of an ancient fortress.
Built in the 1560s, this Renaissance-style château is supported by three towers, the remains of a former fortress. Surrounded by a moat and nestled in the heart of a beautiful park with trees and formal gardens in the style of Le Nôtre, Denone was owned by Charles de Marillac, French ambassador under François I and Henri II. The building was subsequently purchased by the Marquis d'Effiat from a de Marillac heiress. In 1629, the Marquis hosted Cardinal de Richelieu for four days. This illustrious event is recalled in the "Cardinal's Room".
