KASBAH OR CITADEL
Visit the original citadel and discover the Villaderias caves (named after the Spanish governor who built them).
This is the original site of the Medina, founded in the early 10th century. The citadel is surrounded by high walls and bastioned towers. A small curiosity is the Villaderias caves, named after the Spanish governor who built them for his troops. However, the kasbah has been in a state of disrepair since the 1990s, and is largely overcrowded. A word of warning: don't go into the kasbah on your own - go with a local guide and at least one of his friends, as muggings are common in this part of town.
