This mosque was built by Bey Bouchelaghem, who liberated the town in 1708. But when the Spanish retook the city in 1732, they built a watchtower in its place. When Oran was finally liberated from the Spanish yoke in 1792, Bey Mohamed el Kébir had the mosque rebuilt. After 183, it served as a military storehouse for the French army until 1844, when it was converted into a church. Today, the building is once again a mosque and was renamed "Ibn Obeida" in 1989.
