ARENES
Built in 1906, this arena hosts bullfights, a tradition perpetuated in Oran by the Spanish community.
These are said to be the only arenas in Algeria, and among the only arenas in Africa. Built of wood in 1890, they were destroyed by fire and replaced by the contemporary building in 1908. They were the scene of bullfights, a tradition perpetuated by Oran's strong Spanish community. After major renovation work, the arena reopened in 2018 as a venue for sporting activities. The stands can accommodate 10,000 spectators. Underneath, artists and craftsmen occupy wooden booths, bringing the building to life.
