PLACE FRANTZ FANON (EX VILLEBOIS-MAREUIL)
A square in Oran named after Frantz Fanon, a West Indian thinker who campaigned for Algerian independence.
This square is named after the West Indian thinker Frantz Fanon, who campaigned for Algerian independence. The building of the ex-Compagnie Algérienne (CPA bank) can be seen here, with its Moorish-style pavilion and conical roof. The famous Café Riche, which long stood on this square, has been replaced by a modern hotel, the Hotel Timgad, whose terrace café is now called the Grand Café Riche in memory of the past.
