TAHTAHA PLACE
A square in Oran commemorating one of the city's bloodiest bombings (February 28, 1962).
For a long time, this square was one of the liveliest parts of M'dina Jdida, with its cafés, parties and fantasias... Today, it's a much quieter place, as the shops of this giant bazaar district have gradually made it lose ground, and it now seems to have lost its soul. In the middle stands a monument to the city's martyrs. It was here, too, that one of the city's bloodiest attacks took place on February 28, 1962, perpetrated by the French terrorist organization, l'Organisation de l'Armée Secrète (OAS).
