This place first marked the name of "Remembrance Square" and it could be seen a monument to the dead dedicated to the victims of the First World War by the sculptor Albert Pommier and inaugurated in 1927. After Algeria's independence, the monument was repatriated to Lyon in 1967.
The original base, however, remained on this square and the old monument was replaced by a large ceramic fresco.
