Built at the beginning of the colonial era, in 1887, it resembles in every way the large collèges and lycées built at the same time in metropolitan France. At the time, it was the largest building in the city, 400 meters long, with 2 storeys and 3 courtyards. In the main courtyard, an engraved stele bears the names of former Lycée students who "died for France". Today, the lycée is still in operation, and part of it is now occupied by the offices of the French consulate.
