Sober "army gate" in Tlemcen, part of an ancient wall built to celebrate a victory.
Literally the "Thursday Gate". This is the name given to several fortified gates in the medinas of the Maghreb, notably in Morocco. On the Sebdou road, near the Tlemcen hospital, the sober "Army Gate" is 9 m high, 4 m deep and 4.50 m wide. It was part of an ancient city wall, but may have been built to celebrate a victory, or it may have been constructed during a siege. Its final destination is unclear. All we know is that it was built under the Marinids.
