The festival celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017. Plays by troupes from all over Algeria are presented at the Théâtre régional and the Maison de la culture Ould-Abderrahmane-Kaki.
Created in 1967, the Mostaganem National Amateur Theatre Festival is the oldest cultural event in Africa and the Arab world. In 2024, the 55th edition of the festival brought together some 440 participants under the theme "With theater, we renew ourselves".
