DJEDDARS
These truncated pyramid-shaped djeddars in Tiaret belong to Christian Berber mausoleums from the Byzantine period.
The thirteen Djeddars, Christian Berber mausoleums from the Byzantine era, built on the Djebels Laghdar and Araoui. Shaped like truncated pyramids, they are built of cut stone on square bases. At Ternaten, the Keskès, nicknamed for its shape reminiscent of the dish used to cook couscous, is the largest of these tombs. The Keskès, 48 x 45 m, is hollowed out by galleries and some twenty rooms, two of which are recognized as burial chambers due to the traces of paint that remain.
