KALAA ATH ABBÈS
A military fortress in Béjaïa, founded in the Hammadite period, traces its legendary past and the exodus of its inhabitants.
The historic village of Kalaa Ath Abbès, founded in the 16th century, is perched at 900 m altitude in the Biban mountains. It is reached via the road leading up to Ighil Ali from Akbou, the village of Jean and Taos Amrouche, famous Kabyle writers. Kalaa Ath Abbès, with its traditional stone houses, has retained all the charm of its legendary past despite the ravages of time, the battles that intensively destroyed it and the exodus of its inhabitants. Founded in Hammadite times, the Kalaa, as its name suggests, was a military fortress.
