Museum dating from 1930, with a collection of Orientalist paintings and ancient Numidian and Roman remains.
Until 1973, the museum bore the name of its founder, Gustave Mercier. Founded in 1853, it is the third largest museum in Algeria. It features a collection of 19th-century Orientalist paintings and prehistoric, Numidian and Roman remains unearthed in and around Constantine. Highlights include the bronze Victory of Cirta, discovered at the Capitole, objects and weapons from the Khroub tower, the tomb of a Berber king, and 2nd-century Roman mosaics.
