PLACE DU 1ER-NOVEMBER
This square is home to Constantine's regional theater, built between 1861 and 1883 in the style of an Italian opera house.
The square that can be seen beyond the Brèche once had in its center a column surmounted by a Gallic rooster, of which only the base remains. Built between 1861 and 1883 in the style of an Italian opera house, on the site of the former barracks of the janissaries, the regional theater of Constantine (TRC) can accommodate up to 600 spectators. It was the first major building constructed by the French, namely the architects Jean Gion and Jean Monnier. Most of the works and sculptures were made by Gustave Germain (1843-1909).
