SAHARIAN MUSEUM
Saharan Museum dating from 1936 in Ouargla, with exhibits from the Sedrata excavations.
Supported by the Centre de recherches et d'études sahariennes, the museum at Béni-Abbès, although a little dusty, is one of the most interesting in Algeria - particularly in the South. The collections of mineralogical and fossil finds, prehistoric objects from excavations at Heded Baba Hatda and Mahrouma, and Saharan handicrafts are extensive.
Good to know: the museum is partly closed for renovation work, but remains open to the public, and a large part of the collections can still be viewed. Don't hesitate to drop in if you're planning a stopover in Béni Abbès.
