This folk, cultural and religious event commemorates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. It is celebrated by the people of the Gourara and is one of the most important gatherings in the Sahara. The pilgrimage begins in Timimoun on Mouloud day and, after seven days and nights, ends at the zaouïa of Sidi El Hadj Belkacem. The pilgrimage includes processions, ceremonies, poems, songs, dances and meditations at the sacred sites. Since 2015, this pilgrimage has been inscribed on Unesco's List of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
