The Monastery of St. George was founded in the 10th century and then rebuilt several times. One of the two churches houses frescoes from the 15th to the 17th century that show the evolution of religious pictorial art during the Ottoman domination. Very vivid colours and moving scenes. Very nice panoramic view of Sofia. The best time to visit the monastery is during the major Orthodox holidays: May 6, August 15 and September 8.
