This splendid, typically Byzantine building served as a mosque during the Turkish occupation.
This is the church of the Sveti Sedmochislenitsi, in Cyrillic църква "Свети Седмочисленици". This beautiful brick church with domes is dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius and their five disciples (Clement, Gorazd, Nahum, Angelar and Sava). A splendid, typically Byzantine edifice, the Church of the Seven Saints of the Bulgarian Church was used as a mosque during the Turkish occupation. It was known as the Black Mosque. It stands next to the tomb of Petko Karavelov (1843-1903), a national political figure.
