Mausoleum built in honor of Alexander of Battenberg, Bulgaria's first sovereign after liberation in 1878.
From his Cyrillic name: Мавзолей на Александър I Батенберг. Alexander of Battenberg was the first Bulgarian sovereign after liberation in 1878. The former sovereign rests within a harmonious 11-meter-high neobaroque building, built in 1892 near the university by Swiss architect Hermann Mayer. The interior was designed by Bulgarian artist Haralampi Tachev. Closed during the socialist period, it was renovated in 2005.
