Mausoleum built in honor of Alexander of Battenberg, Bulgaria's first sovereign after liberation in 1878.
From its name in Cyrillic: Мавзолей на Батенберг Александър I Батенберг. Alexander of Battenberg was the first Bulgarian ruler after the liberation in 1878. Impossible not to build a mausoleum in his honour in the capital. It is there that he rests. The harmonious neobaroque building was built in 1892 by the Swiss architect Hermann Mayer and the interior painted by the Bulgarian artist Tachev. It is located near the university.
