Monumental colonnaded library near the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
Close to Alexander Nevski Cathedral, this monumental colonnaded library was built between 1942 and 1954. It is Bulgaria's national library, with over 3 million books. In 1975, a statue was erected at the entrance in homage to the two saintly devotees of reading who gave their name to the building and were the originators of Cyrillic writing. This national library has overtaken the historic one in Veliko Tărnovo.
