In Cyrillic: Националният исторически музей. It is the largest museum in Bulgaria dedicated to the history of the territory since prehistoric times. The collections represent the Roman and Byzantine eras, then the refoundation of the Bulgarian state. One discovers in particular superb gold works of the Thracian period, of which the treasure of Panagyurishte. On the second floor, from which one has a superb view of Vitocha, an exhibition traces the development of the Bulgarian alphabet.
