The old town is home to a number of remarkable monuments, including National Renaissance houses, the churches of St. Dimitar (19th century) and St. Pantaleimon (17th century), an abandoned synagogue built in 1894, a mosque, the library of Osman Pazvantoglu, the late 17th-century Ottoman governor, and the Krastata Kazarma, an Ottoman barracks dating from 1801. Go as far as the market and its covered market halls, walk in the green belt that surrounds the old town, and finish with a stroll along the banks of the Danube, which are not lacking in charm either.
