CHURCH OF THE HOLY ARCHANGEL-MICHAEL
A superb medieval church illustrating Tryavna's importance during the second Bulgarian kingdom.
Superb medieval church, with very dark interiors, but decorated with magnificent icons and wall frescoes. Dating from the 12th century, it illustrates Tryavna's importance during the second Bulgarian kingdom. It was rebuilt in 1819. The icons, carved wooden iconostases and throne inside the church are the work of master craftsmen of the national Renaissance. The iconostasis is by the Vitanov family and the frescoes by the Zahariev family.
