CHURCH OF THE HOLY ARCHANGEL-MICHAEL

Superb medieval church, with very dark interiors, but decorated with beautiful icons and murals. Dating from the 12th century, it illustrates the importance of Tryavna during the second Bulgarian kingdom. It was rebuilt in 1819. The icons, carved wooden iconostases, and the throne inside the church are the work of the master craftsmen of the National Renaissance. At the back and on the first floor there is a small and beautiful icon museum, also worth seeing.
