Magnificent monastery set in oak forest overlooking the Yantra river canyon.
From his Cyrillic name Преображенския манастир. This magnificent monastery is located in a setting of oak forest overlooking the canyon of the Yantra River. It is the fourth largest in Bulgaria. Created in 1360, it was demolished by the Ottomans and rebuilt in the mid-19th century. It honours the second wife of the Bulgarian king Ivan-Alexander and their son. The frescoes by Zaharii Zograf and Dospevski, including the famous "Circle of Life", date from this period.
