REGIONAL HISTORY MUSEUM (ИСТОРИЧЕСКИ МУЗЕЙ)
Modern museum exhibiting a rich collection of objects from antiquity.
One of Bulgaria's great history museums. The century-old Stara Zagora Historical Museum has strengthened its position as a prestigious cultural and scientific institution, not only in the town, but also in the country and abroad. The Museum Department at Stara Zagora was born in 1907, when a group of patriotic citizens, public figures and cultural figures founded the Augusta Trayana Archaeological Association. Today, it oversees various historical structures, including the Museum of Neolithic Dwellings, the Museum of Religions, the Architectural Complex, the Augusta Trayana - Beroe Ancient Forum Complex, and the 19th-century House Museum of Urban Life in Stara Zagora. The Stara Zagora Regional History Museum preserves around 100,000 units of movable cultural objects from prehistory to modern times. Visitors can discover everything from late 19th-century handicrafts to a late-antique mosaic of a Roman house. This structure is a major tourist center in the region, an attractive target for Bulgarian and foreign visitors alike. Integrating the remains of the ancient city of Augusta Traiana, this museum shows a portion of the main street of the Romanized city - cardo maximus - and at the same time a rich collection of objects from antiquity presented in a modern museography that highlights the discoveries of archaeological excavations. Not to be missed. Exciting guided tours.
