TOMB OF SEUTHES III AT KOSMATKA BURIAL MOUND
This temple, built of carved granite blocks, was used for over a century to celebrate religious ceremonies.
This temple, built of hewn granite blocks in the5th century BC, was used for over a century to celebrate religious ceremonies (known as the Orphic Mysteries). At the beginning of the 3rd century BC, King Seuthes III was ritually buried in the central chamber. A sublime bronze head of the king was discovered nearby, and having retained its pâte de verre and alabaster look, it became the focus of the Thracian treasures exhibition at the Louvre in 2015.
